About the production
Discover a new side to the streets of East London in our walking audio exhibition, Still, Here, launching on the day when we would have celebrated Hackney Carnival.
In a year when the annual buzz of street carnivals has fallen silent, audiences are invited instead to visit our Hackney streets and hear learning disabled and autistic artists share their experiences of lockdown, and their hopes for the ‘new normal’. Stop at key locations to hear reflections through spoken word, recorded conversations and found sound.

How does it work?
Still, Here is an outdoor audio exhibition on the streets of Hackney.
It has eight stops. Each stop has an Exhibition Poster with a QR code. Use your smartphone camera to scan the QR code. This will take you to our audio recordings of sounds and words spoken by the artists.
The experience is free. There is no need to book. Simply scan the QR code on your smartphone to begin the tour. There is no live performance, so you can enjoy it at your own pace, and start at any time you like.
Begin the experience at the information display outside Hackney Town Hall. You can then make your own way along the route of 8 stops finishing at Homerton Hospital.
We recommend experiencing Still, Here in the daytime for maximum people watching, fresh air and lunch spots along the way.
Access
The whole route is outside. It is fully accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter.
Video captions on your smartphone, and audio description, are included as part of the experience.

“I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I am a university student and travelled down from Birmingham to experience the performance. I have never experienced theatre quite like this and in the current circumstances, I think Still, Here is innovative and essential. It connects people through performance safely and with much care and consideration. Thank you for this performance, I found the last section particularly moving and poignant, the reflective nature of the piece is something I hadn’t realised was well-needed for me!”

Still, Here was commissioned by Chats Palace, presented in association with Shoreditch Town Hall as part of Hackney Carnival.
